Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience

Expected starting salary $32.07 to $42.83. Full salary range $32.07 to $53.58.

Associate’s degree from an accredited college in low voltage, locksmithing, building security or related field and two (2) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.
OR
A combination of education and experience equivalent to four (4) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.

Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.

Required Special Qualifications:

  • Locksmith Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Registered Unlicensed Power Limited Technician in Minnesota with in 6 months of employment and work towards Licensed Power Limited Technician.

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, oversees and maintains several critical security systems that directly affect the County’s departments, staff, and facilities. Conducts general maintenance, installation and repair on all mechanical and electronic locks and locking systems throughout County buildings. Conducts maintenance, installation, and repair of low voltage systems: Garage door sensors, Audio Visual wiring, electric strikes, handicap operators, and commercial doors and associated hardware. Performs weekend and emergency on-call duties as required for all General Services. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

Examples of Work

  • Performs preventative maintenance on all doors and associated door hardware.
  • Maintains, installs, and repairs mechanical, electronic locks and locking systems.
  • Creates, distributes, and tracks keys and keycards for all County employees and affiliates.
  • Leads maintaining the Olmsted County’s Master Key system.
  • Maintains, installs, and repairs low voltage systems including audio visual wiring, handicap operators, garage doors sensors, and related devices.
  • Assists with project coordination and planning.
  • Maintains supplies and inventory for mechanical and electronic locks and associated parts.
  • Coordinates system standards between multiple departments.
  • Provides emergency security needs associated with mechanical and electronic locks and locking systems.
  • Implements and assists with maintaining the county wide COOP plan.
  • Assists with furniture moves, signage, snow removal, and general maintenance duties.
  • Performs other general support duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the functions and uses of commercial door hardware.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electronic locks and locking systems.
  • Knowledge of the concepts of building safety and security.
  • Knowledge of commercial and residential overhead garage doors.
  • Knowledge of low voltage concepts.
  • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements associated with door openings and door hardware.
  • Knowledge of fire codes and requirements associated with door openings and door hardware.
  • Knowledge of building codes and requirements.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work with competing deadlines.
  • Skill in the use of computers and technology including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to read and understand plans, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Ability to read a voltage meter and interpret readings.
