SUMMARY:
To support student learning and engagement in a Spanish immersion fifth-grade setting by reinforcing core academic content, supporting small group learning, and assisting with differentiated instruction. The Bilingual Academic Paraprofessional works in close collaboration with classroom teachers to ensure all students receive the support needed to be successful in a rigorous, language-immersive environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.
- Provide academic support to students in both Spanish and English, reinforcing concepts taught during core instruction.
- Work with small groups of students to review, practice, and extend learning under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Assist in implementing differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs.
- Support student engagement, organization, and on-task behavior during instructional time.
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to plan and deliver targeted student support.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers to inform instruction.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and materials preparation as needed.
- Maintain a high-quality learning experience and support strong communication and trust with families and the school community.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with staff and, when appropriate, families.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED (or equivalent).
Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in an academic setting.
Previous experience in a Spanish immersion or bilingual educational setting preferred.
Training or experience in supporting differentiated instruction or small group learning preferred.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Fluency in both Spanish and English (Required).
Familiarity with elementary literacy and math instructional practices preferred.
Cultural competency and an understanding of how to support a diverse student population.
District policies regarding student confidentiality and safety.
Required Skills:
Strong interpersonal and professional communication skills in both Spanish and English.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of an instructional team.
Demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to build strong, supportive, and student-centered relationships.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in a Grade 5 Spanish immersion classroom within an elementary school setting. This is a fast-paced and dynamic environment that requires a high level of student interaction throughout the day, demanding constant adaptability and responsiveness to meet the needs of a highly engaged school community.
